I COULD NEVER BE A DANCER is a Paris-based duo of choreographers who also work as creative directors and filmmakers. Carine Charaire and Olivier Casamayou come from a contemporary dance background before expanding into fashion, music, contemporary art and advertising.
Their introduction to the fashion world happened during an initiatory photoshoot featuring Karl Lagerfeld as the photographer and Emmanuelle Alt as the stylist.
This led to numerous collaborations with prestigious brands such as Cartier, Chanel, Dior, Kenzo, Issey Miyake or Givenchy, for events, fashion shows, photo and video campaigns. These projects have brought them to work with renowned directors like Damien Chazelle, Johan Renck, and Xavier Dolan. Since 2008, they have developed a special relationship with Hermès, engaging in a diverse and exciting collaboration.
Their choreographies also contribute to shaping pop culture through music videos, live performances for stage and television. They have choreographed for artists such as Chaka Khan, Kylie Minogue, Stromae, Metronomy, Pet Shop Boys, and Mirwais. They have an ongoing collaboration with Jessie Ware, working on her world tours and multiple music videos, which they choreograph and sometimes direct.
They also directed and choreographed Air France’s in-flight safety video, which was shown on all the airline’s flights between 2015 and 2020.
In parallel, Carine and Olivier take part in artistic projects for major cultural institutions in France and abroad. These include a performance in collaboration with Valérie Belin at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2013; PePi, a performance created for the first Picasso exhibition in China at UCCA in Beijing in 2019, and the Babydisco installation at Palais de Tokyo in 2009.
